The Friday before our first preview service, the core team gathered at Pastor Dave’s house for a prayer meeting. We went around and shared what we were thankful for. Surprisingly (or maybe not so surprisingly), everyone’s response was some version of how this church plant has blessed them, given them hope and purpose, and fulfilled a calling to be missional.
Bringing us together
Pastor Dave was thankful for God’s providence in the core team. He prayed for an army of 40, but God gave him a special task force of 15 talented people. One core member was encouraged by watching the other members use their talents to serve God. Another described Commission Church as “a special family to join forces with” after deciding his old small church and potential mega churches were not the right fit.
Series of divine appointments
Several core members gave thanks for God’s divine hand in their journey of finding a new church. One member ran into Pastor Dave at a Chipotle exactly when Pastor Dave was thinking about her. A local family kept running into Pastor Dave after attending one of Commission Church’s events over the summer. Another member described a slowly-maturing desire to serve in a church plant that was realized when he found Commission Church.
A missional community
We all thanked God for providing an open and loving church family that truly worships. Regardless of life stage, each member has found a spiritual home in this multiethnic and outreached-focused community. One core member found encouragement during a time of many transitions and life changes. Also, more than one member felt that this church plant satisfies the calling to participate actively in God’s work and do something great for God.
Inexplicable yet certain
While sharing, more than one person said, “I can’t explain it, but I just knew God was calling me to be part of Commission Church.” God’s specific calling and conviction is apparent in our group, even though sometimes we catch ourselves thinking, “Are we crazy?” We are all amazed at God’s faithfulness in bringing us together. There is immense joy in doing God’s work, and it is even better when we do it together.
As we look forward to the Grand Opening, we give thanks for God’s blessing and favor during this exciting chapter of Commission Church’s history. What are you thankful for right now? How can Commission Church be a blessing and encouragement to you? Let us know in the comments or on Facebook!
