For the Life of the World Week 7: Church

Week 7, which is the last week in the series, defined the following unfamiliar words for us: Anamnesis – A memory that is a lived memory Prolepsis – The not yet now Anamnesis is embodied in Jesus’ words “Do this in remembrance of me.”  It denotes a type of active memory in which we live […]

For the Life of the World Week 6: Wonder

What is wonder? One definition is to be filled with admiration, amazement, or awe. In the video, the narrator, Evan, is overwhelmed by daily life and how everything we say, think, do is centered around ourselves. This was illustrated by the dream Evan is sharing about him trying to leave his house but is constantly […]

For the Life of the World Week 5: Economy of Wisdom

Tonight the thing that really impacted my thought was the reality that God created me “fearfully and wonderfully.” “Fearfully” meaning, “with great interest, heartfelt interest and respect,” and “wonderfully” translated as “unique, set apart, uniquely marvelous.” The thought that God with sincere care to make sure we are created a certain way – reveals how […]

For the Life of the World Week 2: Economy of Love

This week’s lesson focused on the purpose of family, and what it means to be a Christian family. Each video snippet is related to the one grand question of being in the world and not of it. Undergirding each bullet is the refrain of “perspective” or knowing/understanding. Have we taken the correct perspective […]

Over the next several weeks, our church leadership team will be undergoing a series of studies on the topic of “faith at work.” This will be a multifaceted small group that will meet weekly and watch the For the Life of the World DVD series, engage in deep discussions and prayer, and read Work Matters […]

Church Planting Is in Our DNA

As I’ve been going through this planting season of my life, God continually humbles me with reminders that He is the Master Builder at the head of Commission Church. In the short time that we’ve been holding preview services, our church has had visitors from another church plant that is just starting out, as well as youth leaders who desire to revitalize their home church ministries.

One Body, One Vision

The Friday before our first preview service, the core team gathered at Pastor Dave’s house for a prayer meeting. We went around and shared what we were thankful for. Surprisingly (or maybe not so surprisingly), everyone’s response was some version of how this church plant has blessed them, given them hope and purpose, and fulfilled a calling to be missional.
